The Metropolitan Boston EMS Council (Region IV) is hosting one of five (5) FREE one-day EMS Educator Seminars being held throughout the State

Wednesday, June 13, 2012, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

The Sheraton Framingham Hotel & Conference Center

Sponsored by funding provided by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health / Office of Emergency Medical Services

Continuous Refreshment Breaks, including Continental Breakfast, Breaks and Lunch, will be provided to all participants

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS AVAILABLE - UP TO SEVEN (7) HOURS FOR ALL EMT LEVELS

Each participant will receive an educator’s handbook that contains some of the material covered, and more, as a resource


TOPICS TO BE COVERED:
Part I will be presented in lecture format and open class discussion consisting of an overview of the theoretical principles of teaching adult learners, adult learning theory and components of effective instruction which will also include an overview of course administration with an emphasis on MA OEMS and Regional requirements
Part II will consist of three 70-minute small-group workshops on 1) Course planning and evaluation; 2) Use of instructional media and 3) Teaching psychomotor procedures

Region IV Trauma Point of Entry Plan Updated

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has informed Region IV of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) verification of the Trauma Service of Tufts Medical Center as a Level I Adult Trauma Center. A copy of the updated Region IV Point-of-Entry Plan reflecting the change at Tufts Medical Center may be located on our website under Provider Information under the Patient Care section.

OEMS has Approved Region IV Trauma Point-of-Entry Plan

We are pleased to inform you that the Department of Public Health has approved the new Region IV Trauma Point-of-Entry Plan based upon the Commonwealth’s adoption of the National Trauma Triage Guidelines published by the Centers for Disease Control.  This Point-of-Entry plan addresses several issues related to the transport of critical trauma patients, as well as patients who may be injured, but do not require transport to a trauma facility. 

 

Trainings are required by OEMS for training directors, instructors and managers, who in turn, will train their EMT staff members.

I-93 Construction Project - EMS Advisory

We have been informed about the plans to close and re-route traffic on Interstate 93 North and South Bound between Somerville and Stoneham during the Summer weekends.  Beginning in mid-June and ending in August (Weather weekends built in), a bridge replacement will begin in Medford.  There are 14 bridges being replaced along I-93 (7 each side).

The new area is covered, has 10 parking bays, a new decontamination room and direct access to the Emergency Department. REGION IV STROKE EDUCATION TOOLKIT

Developed by the Council’s Public Information and Education Resources Committee (PIER) chaired by Alice King, RN, MS, CEN

The Stroke Tool Kit is available for Region IV EMS providers to use for educating various community groups seeking knowledge on stroke awareness and education. The purpose is to educate the target audience on recognizing signs and symptoms of stroke and to act “FAST” – Face, Arm, Speech, Time.

The Stroke Tool Kit is available for community presentations to:

  • Nursing Homes and Rehabilitation Centers
  • Senior Centers
  • Community Groups
  • Adult Day Care
  • Elementary Schools
  • Middle Schools
  • High Schools
  • Assisted Living
  • Community Veterans Groups
  • Other similar groups and organizations

At the conclusion of the program participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize signs and symptoms of stroke
  2. When to call 911

Instructors for this program should be an EMS provider with minimum of EMT with CPR Instructor Certification.
