Continuing Education Program Files

       Russ Johansen, O.E.M.S. Training Program Coordinator, advised the Training Committee that after several years of intense work and revisions, he was pleased to announce the release of the department's new Training Manual.  Johansen stated that the manual  was developed by members of a Training Subcommittee, with the assistance of OEMS, for those who share the responsibility for providing education programs to EMTs at all levels certified in Massachusetts.  The purpose is to provide simple and clear guidance to any person or organization who sponsors EMT continuing education or refresher courses.  The manual will also assist sponsors of special courses including automatic defibrillation, epinephrine auto-injector training and ALS/BLS Interface training, all of which have specific curriculum requirements.

        The manual is divided into six Chapters and an Appendix section.  The chapters cover everything you need to know about refresher training and continuing education, from filling out the new "Application for Approval" form and writing a comprehensive outline to choosing a suitable instructor.  The forms in the Appendix can be additionally utilized as "masters" and photocopied for future use.  A Glossary of commonly used terms and organizations will help the reader understand some of the unfamiliar terms in the manual.  Lastly, a resource guide is included to aid the instructor/program coordinator in obtaining the materials they may need to provide current and comprehensive programs.

        Course sponsors, training officers and other interested parties are urged to obtain a copy of the document by requesting a written one through  O.E.M.S. or by downloading it on this site below.
