Ambulance Staging at BIDMC Boston
Please be advised, we have been asked to send you this information from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center regarding ambulance staging.
The entire length of Autumn Street from Riverway to Longwood Ave has had new signage installed for all ambulance companies utilizing that street.
Attached to this email you will see a map highlighting the areas of concern and two different colored signs. Blue and Red. The Blue signs run from the Riverway at Autumn Street along the right side of the street to Crossover Street. The blue signs speak to ambulance personnel engaged in patient transfers. Those sign read, “Ambulance Patient Transfer Only. Unauthorized Vehicles will be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.” Below that sign is a smaller sign that reads, “ATTENTION All Engines must be turned off.” These signs have been posted due to high CO2 levels being detected in adjacent buildings while ambulances are out back idling while parked.
The Red Signs run from Crossover Street to the upper end of Autumn Street at Longwood Ave. These signs read, “ALS Ambulance Staging Area Only. Unauthorized vehicles will be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.” BIDMC Public Safety understands that our ALS Ambulance crews are instructed by their employers, to stage at certain hospitals. In an effort to accommodate those teams, while keeping our patients and staff safe, we have installed these signs at that end of Autumn Street away from our main buildings. They feel that these changes in signage will better accommodate their ambulance colleagues, while maintaining a safe atmosphere for their patients and staff.
